The breakup of Elena and Stefan in season 2 of The Vampire Diaries was a devastating moment for fans. In a recent interview with Nina Dobrev, her co-star Paul Wesley discussed his experience filming the emotional scene and revealed that it made him a little angry with the director.

Elena and Stefan's relationship had been the foundation of the show, but everything changed when Katherine Pierce returned to Mystic Falls. In order to protect their loved ones from Katherine's threats, Elena and Stefan pretended to break up.

However, Katherine saw through their ruse and caused harm to Elena's Aunt Jenna. It became clear that in order to keep everyone safe, Elena had to end her relationship with Stefan for real.

The breakup scene was unexpected and heart-wrenching, and both Dobrev and Wesley delivered powerful performances. However, Wesley admitted that he was dealing with personal difficulties during that time, which influenced his portrayal of Stefan's emotions. He explained that while he didn't want to delve into dark places because of his own struggles, the director pushed him to bring out those feelings on screen.

Despite the challenges Wesley faced, he expressed that the scene worked perfectly for the story and he would do it again in a heartbeat. Although Stefan and Elena's relationship was never the same, they eventually moved on to new partners, with Stefan ending up with Caroline and Elena choosing Damon.
