Late star Matthew Perry wasn't going to accept a proposed storyline about his character's infidelity.

On the hit comedy series, Perry famously played Chandler Bing, and the character's (Courteney Cox) had the two seen as one of television's most popular couples of all time. For fans, it may be unfathomable to imagine one being unfaithful to the other, but there were plans at one point to write a storyline where Chandler had an affair. Speaking with TMZ, guest star Lisa Cash said her character was originally supposed to hook up with Chandler.

In the episode in question, Season 5's "The One in Vegas: Part 1," Cash briefly appeared as a flight attendant.

She explained how her character was initially written with a much larger role that would have seen her delivering room service to Chandler's hotel after he'd had a heated argument with Monica, and in the heat of the moment, the two become intimate. Cash said that the scene made it as far as rehearsals, but that's when Perry is said to have gone to the writers to have it scrapped, concerned that the fans would never look at Chandler the same way again.

The Scene Was Rehearsed Before Matthew Perry Squashed It

"We had rehearsed it and everything, and then the day before we were shooting in front of a live audience, I was told that [Perry] went to the writers and said that the audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica.

He was probably right, that would've changed possibly the course of the show and his character," Cash explained. "I think it was a good move, because they had that other thing with Ross and Rachel, like, This was a decision that he was going ot make to cheat on her, in the moment and everything, but I don't think the audience would have forgiven that. So, it was smart."

Cash admits that it could have been a "game changer" for her career to have such a big scene with Perry on , though she still feels it was for the best to have the storyline nixed. While the role was scaled back, Cash was also happy that she wasn't removed from the episode entirely, as she still appeared as a flight attendant who interacts with Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston).

"They were so nice for not completely cutting me out of the episode," Cash said. "They gave me the co-starring role as a flight attendant with Ross and Rachel. That was great, too."
