The Disney Channel has gone all Glee, introducing its first-ever lesbian couple on the family series, Good Luck Charlie, on Sunday.

In the groundbreaking episode, parents Amy and Bob Duncan, played by Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer, set up a playdate for preschooler Charlie (Mia Talerico) and one of her new friends, who, it turns out, has two mothers.Disney broke the news of the same sex couple last June.Welcome to Disney: The Mouse House's TV channel featured its first ever same-sex parents in family series Good Luck Charlie on Sunday'This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors,' a spokesperson told TV Guide at the time.'Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.'It was welcomed by former Disney child star Miley Cyrus who took to twitter last summer, saying: 'Is this true?!?!?!

This is INSPIRING.'The star didn't have anything to say after the episode aired but hundreds of the show's fans went online to welcome the development.However, not everyone was so happy about the news when it was revealed.

Right-wing group One Million Moms, best known for a failed boycott against JCPenney after the chain store hired Ellen DeGeneres as its spokesperson, condemned the episode.

The lesbian moms appeared on the penultimate episode of Good Luck Charlie. The show premiered on April 4, 2010 and will wrap at the end of season four on February 16 with a one-hour episode.

Meanwhile, Fox's Glee, set in a high school, has been a trailblazer in addressing a variety of contentious issues including same-sex parents, lesbian and gay relationships among teens and crossing dressing youngsters.

Good luck Charlie: The cast - Bradley Steven Perry,  Jason Dolley,  Eric Allan Kramer, Leigh-Allyn Baker and little Mia Talerico - attended the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in LA in September.  The show will wrap next month
