Warning! Spoilers ahead for Young Sheldon season 6, episode 11.
Aside from creating a few plot holes, season 6 is also secretly ruining Sheldon and Penny's best moment. While every member of the Pasadena gang had their own dynamic with the socially-inept genius, Sheldon's relationship with Penny was special. Over the years, they've had countless memorable moments together, making them one of the best pairings on the nerd-centric sitcom. That included a touching conversation in season 10 that is now ruining.
season 6 has been mostly focused on Georgie and Mandy's pregnancy arc and Sheldon's grant database project. So it was shocking when the prequel revived George's cheating storyline with Brenda. , episode 11 advanced the narrative significantly when it was revealed that Missy knows about her dad's secret meet-ups with their neighbor in her chicken coop. Aside from its impact on the spin-off's own storytelling, it also negatively affects one of the best moments with Sheldon and Penny.
In season 10 episode "The Hot Tub Contamination," Sheldon told the story about catching his dad having sexual relations with another woman when he was 13. It was the reason why Sheldon started knocking three times. This massive revelation highlights how much Sheldon trusted Penny to open up about one of, if not the most traumatic incident of his life. The fact that about the matter made it sound like it was a burden that Sheldon solely carried. cheapens the importance of this confession when it is revealed that Missy has long been aware of George's cheating tendencies.
What makes this worse is that Missy actually gets to call out George about secretly meeting Brenda. Regardless of the true nature of their relationship, the fact that they are hiding it makes it look like they are doing something inappropriate. For what it's worth, it doesn't seem like Mary has any inkling that this is happening. However, now that appears to finally start actively tackling George's cheating ways which previously established, it's likely just a matter of time before this whole thing blows open, resulting in the full breakdown of the Cooper parents' marriage.
A secret . Since Sheldon's story about catching his dad cheating on his mom takes place a year before his demise, CBS has enough time to tackle the narrative with season 7 already guaranteed. That being said, it will be tricky to find the right way to do it considering the matter's sensitivity. The plot is admittedly too dark for a lighthearted family sitcom like . However, unless the prequel wants to totally break 's established canon, it doesn't really have any choice but to incorporate the narrative into its storytelling.
