West Wing and Get Out actor Bradley Whitford, who plays Commander Lawrence on the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale, will guest star on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The episode, directed by Mariska Hargitay, will see him play a professor with early-onset dementia who confesses to a murder he committed years ago. This marks Whitford's second appearance on SVU, having previously played a television producer in 2014. Kelli Giddish, who played detective Amanda Rollins for 12 seasons, recently left the show, but hinted at the possibility of returning in the future as Dick Wolf has created a "fertile universe" for characters to appear across different shows.
