At Jennifer Lawrence's wedding rehearsal dinner with husband Cooke Maroney, a familiar face was noticed amongst the crowd, none other than Robert De Niro, her co-star from Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy. The actress confessed feeling worried seeing De Niro, who seemed to know no one and was wandering around. Being caught up in the stress of the event, Lawrence said she took him aside and suggested he be more comfortable at home. Such an act of concern simply relieved her tension.
De Niro had a different recollection of the evening. In his words, “No, I wasn’t uncomfortable. It was nice!”, but added that he only attended for about an hour. The Killers of the Flower Moon star De Niro and Lawrence share a close bond, light-heartedness being a defining feature. An instance of this playful friendship was seen when Lawrence awarded De Niro with the Excellence in Media honor in 2016 at the GLAAD Media Awards.
At that event, Lawrence praised De Niro calling him the kindest person and an epitome of acceptance. De Niro reciprocated the fun banter, joking that he’d swoop Lawrence off her feet if he were a lesbian and teased about the limitations of being a father figure. Despite Lawrence's worries and De Niro's amusing responses, both of these iconic actors proved that their friendship goes beyond just the movie sets.
