Outlander fans, brace yourselves because the beloved series is coming to an end. After eight seasons and ten years of being a part of the Outlander universe, Sam Heughan, who plays the lead role of Jamie Fraser, recently opened up about the bittersweet feeling surrounding the show's conclusion.
During an interview on BBC's The One Show, Heughan expressed his mixed emotions, saying, "It’s been eight seasons...It’s been 10 years of my life." It's clear that being a part of this journey has had a profound impact on him.
However, before we bid farewell to Outlander, there is still a lot more in store for fans. The seventh season, consisting of a whopping 16 episodes, is divided into two halves. The first half aired in August 2023, with the second half set to premiere in 2024. As for the eighth and final season, it is expected to drop in 2025. While there hasn't been an official release date announcement, fans can expect a remarkable conclusion to the series.
Season 8 will most likely draw inspiration from books eight and nine of Diana Gabaldon's popular novel series, titled Written in My Own Heart's Blood and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.
Reflecting on his time on the show, Heughan shared, "It’s just incredible. It’s been an amazing journey. But it’ll be sad to say goodbye to the ginger wig." He couldn't have said it better. As we eagerly await the final season, we can't help but feel a mix of emotions, including excitement, anticipation, and a touch of sadness.
