Kelli Giddish, who played Det. Amanda Rollins on Law & Order: SVU for 11 years, will be leaving the show to pursue teaching forensics psychology at a local university. In the fall finale, Rollins resolves to leave the force after being shot and needs the approval of her mentor and rock, Capt. Olivia Benson, to do so. Rollins' relationship with colleague turned ADA Dominick "Sonny" Carisi ends the episode stronger than ever with bouquets and wedding bells. Despite her departure, Rollins' character brought heart, competence, and humor to the squad room and will still be in their lives. Showrunners hope that Giddish will continue in the Dick Wolf universe.
