Mariska Hargitay, known for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," had her first biological child at 42 years old. After unsuccessful attempts to have more children, she and her husband decided to adopt. They worked with a lawyer to find opportunities and eventually adopted three children. The process was not always easy, as they experienced false starts and heartbreak. However, they persevered and welcomed their children into their family. Hargitay is a hands-on mother, taking an interest in each child's unique interests and needs. Her experiences led her to start the Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps survivors of sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence. Despite the challenges, Hargitay believes that her family is perfect and that her children teach her how to be a better parent.
