Another thing Sheldon didn't learn was how to act when you're not number one at everything. The boy genius always bragged about his intelligence, but he managed to fail regularly.

Sheldon himself was not the one who tried to escape home in the spinoff. But he witnessed Missy's unsuccessful attempt. Though he seems to have quickly forgotten how things ended for his sister that time.
