How Much Was Regina King Paid For Her Cameos On 'The Big Bang Theory'?

Regina King is without doubt one of the most decorated actors in the world today. Among the numerous accolades she has received for her stellar career to date is an Academy award, a Golden Globe and four Primetime Emmy awards. The Oscar and the Golden Globe were for her incredible performance as Sharon Rivers in the Barry Jenkins film, from 2018.

Her success rate at these major award events is stunning: Her Oscar win also represents her only ever nomination. At the Emmys, she has been nominated five times, and only once did she fail to win.

Her filmography contains renown titles, including , and most recently, the HBO hit series, . She can also count herself as part of , even if her appearances on the acclaimed CBS sitcom were limited to just a handful.

Celebrated Bodies Of Work

King started her career as a teenager when she was cast to play Brenda Jenkins in the NBC sitcom called from the late 1980s. Her first big screen role came in 1991, in the form of John Singleton's cult classic, . She played a character called Shalika, and starred alongside names such as Angela Bassett, Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr.

For the better part of the following decade, she continued featuring on both film and television, mostly in supporting roles. She landed her next major TV gig in 2005, as the voice of both Huey and Riley Freeman in Cartoon Network's animated sitcom, .

In 2007, she played Sandra Palmer, an activist, and sister to Presidents Wayne and David Palmer in the Fox action series, . She also had a recurring role in the police procedural drama, , which aired first on NBC and then on TNT for a total of five seasons between 2009 and 2013.

Another one of King's most celebrated bodies of work is her portrayal of various characters in John Ridley's anthology series, Her work in Seasons 1 and 2 accounts for two of her four Emmy awards.

In 2012, the news that King - then at the height of her time on - would be joining in a supporting role. The report stated, "King will play Mrs. Davis, the head of human resources, who will have the unique pleasure of questioning Sheldon after the theoretical physicist lands in hot water following an uncomfortable conversation with his sexy assistant, Alex (Margo Harshman)."

King was indeed cast in the role of Janine Davis, head of HR at Caltech, where Sheldon Cooper, among other main characters on the show work. Mrs. Davis' first appearance was in the 12th episode of the sixth season, She returned for the 20th episode of the same season, and would later appear in future seasons of the show.

In total, King featured in six episodes. In doing so, she joined other illustrious names such as Octavia Spencer, James Earl Jones and LeVar Burton in being regular guest stars on the show.

Well Paid Actors

In their first appearances on the show, the likes of Melissa Rauch - who played Bernadette Rostenkowski - Mayim Bialik (Dr. Amy Farrah) and Kunar Nayyar (Rajesh Koothrappali) were paid $45,000 per episode. By the end of the series run, they were earning between $450,000 and $600,000 per episode.

Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter) and Jim Parsons (Sheldon) were the high earners from the beginning, as they were taking home $60,000 per episode. In the last season, Cuoco made $900,000 per episode, Galecki $1 million while Parsons bagged a cool $1.2 million per episode.

In the limited role of a guest star, King of course would not have been earning anything close to that. reveals how established actors making guest appearances on top shows earn in the range of $8,000 to $25,000 per episode.
