NCIS Fans Praise McGee as One of the Best Written Male Characters on TV

It looks like Walter White and Tyrion Lannister should make room for a surprise contender from the hit CBS series.

Long-running crime series has always found its strength in developing and nurturing interesting characters, while fans have always appreciated this careful approach to building a connection between the characters and the audience. NCIS boasts quite a strong line-up, with many recurring and guest characters sometimes stealing the show from the main cast.

But it seems that while fans can't decide who is the best male character, they can certainly agree on who is by far the best written one among dozens of others.

Though it may come as a surprise to you, the answer to that tough question is Tim McGee, the team's cybersecurity and computer crime expert. He easily snatched the title from other well-known characters on the show.

Fans love everything about him – his personality, work ethic, his relationship with his wife and children. McGee, first introduced as an insecure computer genius back in the first season, has evolved into a well-rounded man who is not afraid to show his emotions, be sensitive and caring to others, while maintaining his inner strength.

Of course, other characters were brought into the conversation as well. Tony DiNozzo was mentioned quite often, but it seems that his 'goofy' persona deprived his personality of depth. Dr. Jimmy Palmer was also a strong contender for best character award, but unlike McGee, he did not really grow as a person during the show's run, remaining as sweet and kind a man as he always was.

Not surprisingly, some fans have compared McGee to the glue that holds everything together – Sean Murray's character has always maintained the perfect balance, being a genius at computers but lacking the skills and abilities to do the physical aspects of a special agent's job, allowing other characters to shine.

Following McGee's evolution over the nearly 20 years of the NCIS series, fans have truly come to appreciate both Sean Murray as an actor and the show's writing team, who always treated his complex character with care and respect.
