Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley displayed an enviable off-screen bromance, akin to their companionship as brothers on the hit show "The Vampire Diaries." In a recent interview on Access Hollywood, they revealed a bitter-sweet dispute they had towards the end of the series. 

In a surprising revelation, they admitted to a heated discussion on who would meet their demise in the last episode. "We both wanted to die at the end of the show, we wanted the brothers to go out with a bang together," Wesley revealed.

Somerhalder, painting a somewhat tragic picture, described their characters as disruptors of peaceful lives at Mystic Falls, indicating that their end could serve as redemption. Although we know now that Stefan took the fall and met a heroic but heartbreaking end, it's revealed that Paul had his own vision for their characters' end.

Among the shocking drama and love triangle, it resonated strongly with viewers when Stefan's character died. Simultaneously, Damon, portrayed by Somerhalder, was left living out his human life after receiving the cure for vampirism leading to an end of his immortality. 

Paul's depiction of their characters as being irredeemable mirrored their on-screen actions, perhaps warranting a less satisfying ending. Although Stefan was the one to face death, Ian's character will eventually meet his end, just with a long and happy life ahead of him.
