Paramount's revival of "Criminal Minds: Evolution" brings viewers back to a Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) that has undergone significant changes. Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons are absent on top-secret assignments, Emily Prentiss has been promoted to Unit Section Chief, and David Rossi has taken over as team leader.

Penelope Garcia, who left in the series finale, has chosen not to return. Meanwhile, Jennifer "JJ" Jareau, Tara Lewis, and Luke Alvez are forced to work separately due to budget cuts. The revival's first season follows a more serialized story, with the profilers uncovering a network of serial killers created over the pandemic by their ultimate enemy, Elias Voit. However, while this approach offers refreshing storytelling, future seasons could benefit from a balance of standalone episodes, allowing for the showcase of the profilers' skills and emotionally impactful cases. This would elevate the revival and resonate with fans. "Criminal Minds: Evolution" is available for streaming on Paramount+.
