Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), reflects on her 23-year journey with the show. The series has evolved from simply shining a light on rape and sexual assault issues to making changes and stopping them, she says. Outside of acting, Hargitay supports survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence through the Joyful Heart Foundation, which she launched in 2004, and starred in an HBO documentary exploring the overwhelming number of untested DNA rape kits. She hopes to see Olivia finding peace, balance and love as the show comes to an end.
