Without a DNA test to confirm Nikolas' paternity of Ace Cassadine (Jay and Joey Clay), doubts will linger.
This intentional creation of uncertainty sets the stage for a shocking revelation at the opportune moment. The unveiling of Ace's true paternity could have profound implications if Nikolas is not the biological father.
When Esme regained consciousness with amnesia, she had no recollection of the identity of her baby's father.
Esme's memory loss prevents her from recalling any lies she may have told. It is possible that Esme deceived Nikolas as part of her plan to fulfill Ryan Chamberlain's (Jon Lindstrom) agenda.
By having Nikolas' child, Esme aimed to permanently rupture his relationship with Ava Jerome (Maura West). The potential exists for someone other than Nikolas to be the biological father, introducing the prospect of an unknown character stepping forward to claim paternity.

If Dex had a clandestine encounter with Esme and has kept it hidden, his relationship with Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) would be at risk.
Naturally, circumstances in the future may lead to a significant revelation. If Dex is indeed Ace's biological father, the repercussions could be devastating for his relationship with Josslyn.
