One Unrealistic Thing in Young Sheldon That Ruins Everything.
11/09/2023

The TV show "Young Sheldon" is set in Texas during the late 1980s and early 1990s, but it appears too modern for that time period. While East Texas Tech seems progressive with a female university president and many women and POC in STEM fields, the show fails to accurately depict the racism and sexism these individuals would have faced. The storyline involving teenage pregnancy and religious scrutiny is portrayed well, but the show misses an opportunity to explore the challenges a young woman like Paige would have encountered as a child prodigy navigating STEM. This one unrealistic aspect ruins the authenticity of the show's depiction of the '90s.
