The Vampire Diaries, even though it was a favorite show for millions of viewers, had its own share of plot holes. Fans often noticed forgotten lines and inconsistencies in the timeline of the show.
What the writers did brilliantly, however, was hiding Easter eggs that viewers are still finding today.
While Bonnie Bennett is at the hospital in season 7 episode 18, she uses a different last name, calling herself Bonnie McCullough. Viewers who are not familiar with the book of the same name which the show is based on may assume that Bonnie is simply hiding her identity.
But fans who have read The Vampire Diaries know that Bonnie's last name is actually McCullough in the book.
This detail is too accurate and precise to be just a coincidence. In season 8 episode 16, Stefan sacrifices himself and dies at the age of 171, which happens to be the total number of episodes of The Vampire Diaries.
This is yet another testament to how thoroughly the writers took care of their characters.
When Vicki appears in Damon's subconscious in season 8 episode 10, the song Enjoy The Silence by Anberlin plays in the background, and it evokes a feeling of déjà vu.
And all because it was playing before — when Damon danced with Vicki in season 1 episode 6.
If you listen to the soundtracks of the show, you can find many interesting details. For example, in season 2 episode 18, the song Last Dance by Pearl Jam is dedicated to Elena — it is a composition about a girl who dies in a car accident.
The plot of the soundtrack was mirrored in the script, and Elena suffered the same fate. Coincidence? We don't think so.
"Hello brother" is Damon's last line in the show. The same phrase is also his first to Stefan.
According to fans of The Vampire Diaries, this little detail is meant to emphasize how much the brothers have changed and matured over the course of the series.
