In the popular TV show "The Big Bang Theory," Raj, a character known for his difficulties in dating and communication, had a humorous romantic misadventure involving Siri, the virtual assistant on his iPhone. This happened in Season 5, Episode 12, titled "The Beta Test Initiation."
Raj fell in love with Siri and later had a dream where he met the "real" voice of Siri. However, in his dream, he couldn't speak to her in person, turning his dream into a nightmare. While Susan Bennett provided the original recordings for Siri's voice for Apple in 2005, it was not Bennett who played Siri in Raj's dream sequence.
Instead, Becky O'Donohue, an actor, model, basketball player, and American Idol finalist, portrayed Siri in that scene. O'Donohue had appeared in previous television shows like "Psych" and "House MD" before her role in "The Big Bang Theory." Afterward, she also made appearances in other shows such as "The Mentalist" and competed in an episode of "Minute to Win It" alongside her sister.
Although Raj's encounter with Siri in his dream was brief and he couldn't communicate with her even within his dream, the episode received positive reviews from critics when it aired in 2012. Fortunately for Raj, his romantic life improved in subsequent seasons, as he overcame his selective mutism and gained the ability to converse with women.
As the series progressed, Raj no longer relied on his devices for romance, and this particular storyline involving Siri marked one of the last instances of the selective mutism plot point for his character.
