This week, an astonishing dog, a Guinness World Records holder, impressed us with a new trick, and a woman traveled over 330 miles to adopt a cat that was returned to a shelter. Along with these tales of internet fame, we've been compiling our favorite images and clips of Newsweek readers' furry friends for our Pet of the Week. One-year-old cat Jack, who mysteriously showed up near his owner's mailbox, is this week's Pet of the Week. "I heard a small persistent meow," shared Jenelle Hardwick, a resident of California.
English Bulldog Hannibal enjoys trips to the flea market. Our first finalist is Hannibal, an English bulldog who resides with his family in New York. "We adopted Hannibal when he was 2 years old, as his former owner was retiring him from the show ring due to cherry eyes," Nancy Scheidt informed Newsweek.
New dog parents Sprocket and Rosie attentively watch over their newborn puppies. Meet Sprocket and Rosie, who recently welcomed their first litter of pups. "They seem to have a knack for parenting," noted owner Evie Allred.
Rescue cat Wiggle, initially underweight, is now thriving in his new home with his owner. Our next entry is Wiggle, a tuxedo cat who entered his owner's life last year. "He appeared on my back porch in July 2023 in a critical condition, weighing a mere 7.5 ounces," shared owner Joey Justiss. "Now, he is a healthy and content 8-plus-pound feline.
Last but not least is Diesel, an adorably unconventional Pomeranian according to his owner, who resides in Alberta, Canada with Amber Goodman. Rescue by the Edmonton Humane Society, Diesel's favorite activities include car rides, swimming, playing with frogs, and socializing with other canines. "He greets everyone he meets warmly and is quite sociable, thanks to the obedience classes he attended at the Humane Society," Goodman shared with Newsweek.
